It feels like magic — but it's a skill, and the students who prompt well leave everyone else's images looking flat. Today you become one of them — and we settle it with a contest.

Class 3 gave you the AI arsenal. Ten seconds of revision, then a quick check — lock it in before we build on it.

2Why create with AI?
This isn't just for fun (though it's very fun). Made well, AI images earn you marks and save you hours. Made lazily, they waste both. Know the difference:
Posters & logos for your app or project · diagrams you can't find online (a labelled water cycle, a food chain) · study aids (a memorable picture that makes a fact stick) · title pages & figures for your SBA write-up (labelled — remember Class 2!).
Faking a photo you claim is real · anything with tiny exact text or precise data (it invents numbers) · a picture where an accurate diagram matters (label it "illustration", not fact) · chasing "perfect" for 40 minutes when a sketch would do.
3The image toolbox — your free stack
You don't need to pay. Here are the free image tools worth knowing — tap each to see what it's best at. (Tools change fast; the names shift, the jobs don't. Most are 13+ — check the sign-up, and under-13s use a parent's account.)
Describe your picture right inside the chat, then say "make the sky darker" and it edits. Great all-rounder and easy to iterate.

4Anatomy of an image prompt
Type "a dog" and you get a boring dog. A pro image prompt stacks five ingredients — say them in this order and your quality jumps instantly:
Subject — the main thing ("a baby dragon"). Style — the look ("Pixar-style 3D cartoon", "photorealistic", "flat vector"). Composition — the framing ("close-up portrait", "low angle", "centred"). Lighting — the mood ("soft golden-hour light", "dramatic studio spotlight"). Detail — the polish ("high detail, vibrant colours, 4k").
Aspect ratio: ask for the shape you need — "portrait 3:4" for a poster, "wide 16:9" for a banner. Negative prompt: some tools let you say what to avoid — "no text, no extra fingers". And remember Class 3: your first image is a draft — refine: "same, but darker sky and a lower camera angle."

Read the brief, then quietly run the five ingredients in your head before you type. The person who names the style and the lighting almost always beats the person who just names the subject.

Images are instant and free. Video is the newest, most jaw-dropping — and the most limited — drawer in the arsenal. Here's the honest map, then your instructor will walk you through a live generation so you see it for real.
Your instructor will run a real prompt through Gemini / Veo on the big screen — same five ingredients, plus one word for motion ("slow pan", "gentle zoom"). Watch how the prompt shapes the clip. You don't need to make one today; you need to see what's coming and know the way in when you want it.

The layout that always works
- Title, big, at the top. Use Ideogram or Copilot if you want the words spelled right.
- Tagline underneath — three words that sell the fun ("dodge · dash · survive").
- Hero image in the centre — one clear thing, not a busy mess.
- A ▶ Play button near the bottom — it says "this is an app".
- Portrait 3:4 and your app's colours throughout. Then refine once or twice.
Paste your prompt into a real image tool (Gemini, ChatGPT or Ideogram) to generate the actual poster — then refine it.
11Create responsibly
This power comes with a code. Break it and you can hurt real people — or yourself. Four rules, non-negotiable:
Never generate a real person — a classmate, a teacher, a celebrity — doing or saying something they didn't. It's not a joke; it's how reputations and friendships get destroyed, and in many places it's illegal. Make characters, not fakes.
No violent, hateful or adult content. If you'd be embarrassed to show it to your gran or your principal, don't make it. The tools log everything.
When AI made or helped an image, say so — a small "AI-generated" label under your figure. It's Commandment #6: give credit where it's due. Passing AI art off as your own hand-drawn work is the same as copying an essay.
Prompting "in the style of [a living artist]" to copy their look is a grey area — lean toward describing the style ("bold cel-shaded cartoon"), not stealing a name. Watch for watermarks, and never claim a tool's output breaks no rules without checking.
